Blackzilla has been a valued member of our league since day one.  Fun Fact in NWA Rollerderby history:  Blackzilla was the very first Killbilly Captain when that team first formed.  Crowds love her and rollergirls hate to get hit by her.  She brings her A game into every bout and shines.  She has recently brought her A+ game to our league by stepping up and becoming our Secretary!  We would be lost without her!  Congratulations Blackzilla!

Pork Pie has been a motivated skater, teammate and leader within NWA Roller Derby. She has always been a top skater, mainly due to her persistent drive to never settle for mediocre performance in any thing she does. Pork is reliable, dependable and always entertaining. Currently she is administratively serving our league as Head of Sponsorship Committee, this is a vital role in our existence and the continued drive to achieve our mission. She continues to be a threat to all her contenders on the track as a blocker and a jammer.

Off skates Pork Pie is a wife, loves ball-room dancing, works for one of the nation’s largest tortilla manufacturers and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity on the weekends. Did I mention she is Canadian, that’s right Go Canada! We all love our Pork Pie.

Shuvee Gremlin #1011

“Shuvee” was the name of a hall of fame race horse. NWA’s Shuvee Gremlin has also proven herself to be one of the fastest contenders around. Shuvee always works hard to improve herself. Shuvee orginally passed her Minimum Skills Requirement to be on the Betties team in March of 2008, but had to immediately quit due to work. Later, she changed her schedule, passed the skills test again, and was admitted to the Betties in November of 2009.

She has proven herself to be a valuable jammer, consistently leaving opponents in the dust and never stopping. Shuvee has taken on the job of organizing much of the “fresh meat” process. Her work has streamlined much of the way NWA trains and tests new skaters.

When not sprinting laps at the rink, Shuvee enjoys horse back riding. She also has two dogs. Shuvee says “I don’t have time for stuff beyond work and skating. I have NO idea how all the moms do it.”

The Killbillies played a very tough game against the fabulous #4 ranked, Dallas Derby Devils.  DDD was victorious with a score of 193 to 47. Congrats to them!

NWA presented Victory Walk Inc. with a $500 check as a part of their ongoing charity work in the community. Victory Walk provides high quality cutting edge therapy for Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Recovery, and assists in finding affordable housing while clients and their caregiver attend therapy. Victory Walk strives to educate the public about ways to avoid Spinal Cord Injuries and will promote research in Spinal Cord Injury treatment.

Thanks again to all of our fans for coming to cheer your Arkansas Killbillies. And to the Dallas Derby Devils for bringing such amazing derby to NWA.

Sin is valuable to NWA both on and off the track. When she is not being a sneaky blocker, Sin is responsible for making NWA look great. All online presence, bout programs, posters, commercials, uniforms, and radio appearances are just some of the amazing things that she takes care of for NWA. She is one of NWA’s most improved skaters largely due to rarely missing any NWA events. We simply wouldn’t know where we would be without her!

Sin owns her own web and graphic design business called Mockingbird Creative. In June 2009, she married NWA Roller Derby head coach, Captain Jay. Together, Sin and Jay travel all over the US to watch roller derby games. When at home, Sin is the mommy to two black cats, Opal and Alabaster.

On Saturday, April 24, the Oklahoma Victory Dolls traveled to Fayetteville, AR to skate against Northwest Arkansas Roller Derby’s Killbillies. In their last face-off, Northwest Arkansas emerged victorious with a score of 165-46. This game proved to be a much tougher match consisting of multiple lead changes.

Northwest Arkansas started off with a quick lead, but it was quickly followed by lots of trips to the penalty box. T Pain’s jamming in jam 7 for OKVD gave a one-point lead for the Victory Dolls, bringing the score to 26-27. Over the next two jams, the lead changed two more times. In Jam 9, Party Pants scored 15 for OKVD giving a score of 34-46. NWA’s blockers starting stepping up the defense including some big hits from Blackzilla and tough positional blocking by Apache Rose.  Killbilly jammers dominated the final 8 jams of the first half, gaining lead jammer status and stifling Oklahoma’s jammers’ scoring. At halftime the score was 81-67 in favor of Arkansas.

The second period started with NWA gaining a bigger lead followed by heavy defense. The third jam featured NWA’s The Professional scoring an unanswered 15 points to lengthen the lead to 104-67. NWA kept a definite focus on defense from this point on. OKVD’s blockers were strong featuring the quick bursts of Jen A Tease and intensity from Sally Strychnine. It was never enough, however, to hold off the simultaneous scoring and defensive jamming by JoAnn of Arc. The final score was 137-110.

NWA’s next bout is in Fayetteville, AR against the Dallas Derby Devils. OKVD will be playing in Oklahoma City on May 15th.
